Division Leaders
Chief Deputy- Colonel Eric Hess
Email: ehess@fluvannasheriff.com The Chief Deputy holds the title of Colonel, is second in command, and reports directly to the Sheriff. Responsibilities include: assist the Sheriff by recommending agency policy and efficiency, directing personnel, and develop while maintaining high morale between Divisions, Units, and Sections within the agency.
Administration- Executive Assistant Martha Gatlin
Email: mgatlin@fluvannasheriff.com The Administrative Division assists the Sheriff by ensuring that all component parts of the Agency coordinate their activities in order to promote a greater efficiency in accomplishing the objectives of the Agency. Responsibilities include: processing accounts receivables and payables for the Agency, supervision of support personnel, and coordinate and process Agency files and records.
Patrol- Lieutenant Aaron Hurd
Email: ahurd@fluvannasheriff.com This Division is a major line element of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office and is responsible for 24-hour patrol and crime prevention functions, preliminary investigation of most crimes and complete investigation of others, preparation of reports relating to crimes or incidents, traffic enforcement, and calls non-crime related services. The Lieutenant reports to the Chief Deputy. top of page
Communication- Director Tammy Johnson
Email: tjohnson@fluvannasheriff.com The Communications Division is under the authority of a civilian, who carries the rank and authority of a Lieutenant within the agency. The Director of Communications commands the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and is responsible for the following: Staffing and managing the Center’s operation; implementing policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the Center; Planning and coordinating the technical support of the Center; and providing 24-hour dispatching for law enforcement, fire, and EMS.
Investigations- Lieutenant David Wells
Email: dwells@fluvannasheriff.com The responsibilities of this division include: investigating major crimes which occur within the County of Fluvanna; collecting, identifying, and preserving any necessary physical evidence which has not been previously processed by the Patrol Division; preparing and presenting cases to the Commonwealth Attorney for formal charging and prosecution of offenders; and coordinating and serving warrants and other legal documents. This division also supervises the School Resource Officers and the Narcotics Investigator. The Lieutenant reports to the Chief Deputy. top of page
Judical Affairs- Lieutenant Von Hill
Email: vhill@fluvannasheriff.com This division is responsible for Civil Process, Courthouse Security, and transportation of prisoners. Responsibilities also include: receiving, processing, and serving civil process documents requiring service by the Sheriff’s Office; ensuring safety within the courthouse and transporting prisoners to and from court. The Lieutenant reports to the Chief Deputy.
Services- Lieutenant Thomas Rench
Email: trensch@fluvannasheriff.com The Services Division collects, preserves, and identifies evidence, and is also responsible for: transporting evidence to and from the State and/or Federal forensic labs; acquiring the appropriate legal and agency documentation to dispose and/or release property from the custody of the Sheriff’s Office. The Services Division is also in charge of the Civil Unit. Responsibilities for the Civil Unit includes service and execution of civil process in Fluvanna County, as directed by the courts.
